My daughter has her first birthday today. I had to get a cake for her.
It was 1.10 am in the office and John was making the Coffee for the Meeting delegates. A leading Corporate in BKC had few delegates from their Australia office came just today in India to negotiate the PSU for tomorrow. Government was to finalise the tendering and John’s company was expecting this 20b Project in their kitty. The delegates including the CEO, William directly came to office from the Airport. John, the Office boy forwarded his foot towards the meeting room and Mr Shah, the Project Manager came in the pantry murmuring about the late evening hours in the office. “Yar, Main kal resign kar raha hun” (In hindi language). I am putting my papers tomorrow, he said to John. John was a lower middle class person living in Mira road, Mumbai with his wife, mother, father and one daughter. John was a graduate and a responsible employee. However, he was poor and could earn only his bread and butter from this Job. He joined office exactly a year back on the day his daughter was born. “What happened Sir? Why are you talking like this? Any problem?” John asked eagerly to Mr Shah who was frustrated because his boss, the CEO of the company asked him to attend the meeting and Mr shah had to go to the movie at 9.30 pm show with his wife, as he promised her for that. He didn’t responded to John and left for his work station taking his Strong Coffee in his special Mug gifted by his wife. John started walking toward the meeting room and another gentleman met in the middle of the way, just left from the meeting room saying, “Thank god, the meeting is over. Such a boring meeting ever”. This person was Mr Suthar working as a Vice President of the Company. He had prepared the projection and a plan layout to represent it to the IAS office tomorrow. He too had to leave early today for a birth day party of his dearest friend in Taj but he couldn’t due to this meeting. John Steped in the conference room and offered a hot cup of coffee with a smile to his CEO William, an Australian business tycoon. “Sir a hot and refreshing coffee for you”. William was too tired after such a long flight and a hectic meeting. He had to still review the presentation which Mr Suthar gave him while leaving the meeting as the deal was of 20b and many other rivals were behind this PSU. “Thanks! What’s your name?” William asked eagerly. “Sir my name is John”, John Said with a refreshing smile. William knew everyone who left the meeting room at 1.10 am were all tired. He knew that they had to work hard and had to compromise somehow with their personal commitments, for which they were not so happy attending this meeting. But looking at John, he was feeling charged up and refreshed because he wasn’t looking tired at all. Unlike others he made faces to go home. He asked him if he is late for his home today? “No sir, I’m fine right now. Please let me know if you need anything to eat.” Saying this John left for Pantry. William, without wasting seconds, stopped him and asked him curiously, “Hey, if you want to go, you can. Your family must be waiting for you. Aren’t you hungry? It’s 1.20 AM.” John turned back and responded with a smile: “Yes sir!
I had to bring food as my wife arranged a small gathering of my neighbours but I had work in office so I already requested her to collect it from the shop I booked from and I am sure she must have celebrated beautifully.” Oh! I am so sorry Joseph, I… mean John: said William. John was shocked. He responded. “ Sir please don’t say sorry. You are my lord. I didn’t go because I have work in office. Office needs me more than anyone else. I can celebrate my daughter’s birthday tomorrow but if I won’t be available here, we will loose 20b and I can’t afford to loose this revenue of my company. If my company will earn, my future will be bright. If I come up to care for my company, my company will care for me. Look at your self, even you are still working here”. William said: John, I am a CEO of this company and it is my responsibility and passion to get this project anyhow, so I have to work till late night. Now John said:
“Sir, If you are a CEO than I am the Office boy of this company.
“Sir, If you are a CEO than I am the Office boy of this company. We both have equal stake in the company and today company needs both of us to work together. William had tears in his eyes, seeing John talking like this.CEO, employee, hrd, iimt, iimtstudies, manoj, manoj thakkar, office, office boy, peon, thakkar
